Efim Shifrin Wraps Tour and Plans Ahead

Efim Shifrin, renowned Russian stand-up comedian, just finished a tour around the United States and Canada that included 18 shows. It was one of the most intense tours he’s done, but also one he has said to have enjoyed the most. With more than 10 tours in the U.S. under his belt, he has an army of fans here who were elated with his visit. It is no surprise he was so successful with this latest tour and is looking at a full upcoming season.

Shifrin is known for his witty, intelligent, and tasteful humor, which colors his monologues and songs. His organizer, Lev Trachtenberg, says his audiences laughed from beginning to end at every show and, though his acts depicted Russian realities, Russian speaking Americans also found them relevant, for he recounted human stories.

Concert halls were full, often filled to maximum capacity, including two sold-out houses at the Millennium Theatre, in Brighton Beach, Brooklyn. He was commended for his generosity and patience with his fans; one would hardly know he is such an esteemed celebrity in his country. He wrapped the tour in Miami, FL, delighting the city’s huge population of Russian speakers, and taking a few days for himself afterward. With a sigh of satisfied relief, he said, “This tour was the best.”

Such was his success that the Russian American Consulting Corporation has decided, along with Trachtenberg, to bring a Russian version of the play, The Rubber Merchants, by Hanoch Levin, in which Shifrin will star alongside acclaimed Russian actress Tatyana Vasileva. The production is scheduled to come to the U.S. in March of 2012, and details are being sorted at this very moment. Beyond that, we will also be bringing poet Larisa Rubalskaya in December, who will perform, “Live Peacefully, My Country.” We are excited to feature her talent and sensitivity, and look forward to the impact she’ll have in the U.S.
